PROFILE

Fergal, as he is known at home, has an absolutely amazing character and temperament, coupled with talent and intelligence. This should perhaps come as no great surprise however as his dam, Snowford Bright Pink, is full sister to the late, great Snowford Stoker, who had a fantastic jump and enjoyed considerable success in the dressage arena and was unbeaten in several County Level Breed Shows in Europe before his untimely death, and his sire Snowford Bellman has a record that speaks for itself.

Fergal is a conformationally correct stallion who passed his inspections with exceptionally high marks in the UK in 2000, impressing the judges who commented on his score sheet “small yet mighty”! This stallion is actually much closer to the breed standard of the traditional Irish Draught than his competition.

Fergal has three exceptional gaits, straight and correct with an elevation and athleticism not often found in the purebred .His movement can only be compared to that of today’s elite dressage competitors, with tremendous natural overreach and length of stride. He showed dressage for the first time last season, scoring above 70% and winning.

His jump is phenomenal. Fergal is showing A circuit jumpers at the Virginia Horse Center Spring Premiere and Spring Encore, and at HITS Culpeper among other venues. He won and placed last season and his tremendous presence, personality and ability always draws multiple positive comments from judges, spectators and other competitors. He is schooling 4’3” courses at home with ease and is out in the open competition arena proving – it’s not the size, it’s how you use it. Little horse, big heart, tons of talent. Fergal’s size is always of interest.

Many judges and breeders are concerned about the increase in height that this breed has seen in the last decade. Although some of today’s Irish Draught enthusiasts may consider Fergal small, he is without a doubt a serious asset to the future of this breed. It is a hope that he can assist in bringing the breed back down to its original size, prior to the trend of bigger horses, as dictated by the breed standards. His quality and well proportioned body type exemplify the true characteristics of the Irish Draught breed. All of this, coupled with his adorable nature, both under saddle and in the barn, make Fergal an outstanding choice for mare owners, whether looking to breed purebreds, or Sporthorses for dressage, eventing, jumpers and more.
