PROFILE
Mac is one of three approved purebred sons of Grey Macha RID worldwide, and the only one in North America. Grey Macha, the winner of the Irish Draught Stallion class at the Royal Dublin Society show in 1985, has produced 435 total foals who earned 355 Show Jumping of Ireland (SJAI) points through 1999. Grey Macha is by Pride of Toames RID out of Ballybane Grace RID. Pride of Toames produced 470 foals total who earned 1278 SJAI, 71 Eventing, and 8 Dressage points (in Irish competitions). Pride of Toames is by Pride of Shaunlara RID (364 foals earning 919 Show Jumping, 315 Eventing, and 86 Dressage points). These point earnings only represent those progeny competing in Irish competitions, and do not account for the numerous offspring competing in other countries.
Mac was imported into the USA after winning the Irish Draught yearling colt class and the Munster Joinery Championship at the National Irish Draught Show in Ireland in 1999. He was inspected and approved with the IDHS (NA) in 2001. He was also broke to drive in 2001, and competed twice with his then owner. He was trained in dressage by Kris Hamilton (r) in 2003. Kris describes him as a "Comfortable, easy to ride" horse who "loves to jump anything you put in front of him".
In September 2006, Mac began his Eventing career with Mike and Emma Winter of Wayfarer Eventing in Newnan , Georgia . After two successful shows at the Novice level with Mike in the irons, Mac's amateur owner, Megan, took over the ride. The pair enjoyed a successful debut in January 2007 at Beginner Novice, where Mac packed a nervous Megan around the courses, safely and easily. Mac and Megan will continue to compete at local Horse Trials, Dressage, and Hunter/Jumper Shows, as well as enjoying miles of Southern Alabama trails.
Mac's dam, A Light Breeze RID, is by Heather Breeze RID and out of Gypsy Light AID by Sunny Light TB and out of a Poulgrom RID mare. Heather Breeze is an important outcross line for Irish Draughts, known for stamping his foals with his quality traditional phenotype. A Light Breeze was bred by the late Tobias Corbett in County Tipperary Ireland . The Corbett family has been breeding Irish Draught horses for over 90 years, and A Light Breeze is the 5th generation of a line of mares bred by them. A Light Breeze has been described as a "ballerina" mover, light and agile on her feet, and that movement was passed to Mac.
Mac's pedigree is an excellent blend of performance and tradition. He is considered an “outcross” Irish Draught stallion, having no King of Diamonds, no Clover Hill, and only one line in the 4 th generation to Pride of Shaunlara. As reported in the IDHS Breed Preservation Plan-Interim Report by J.F. Kearney in 2005, Mac's inbreeding Co-Efficient is 0.10% and his mean relationship to the (worldwide RID) mare population is 2.56%. Mac is an excellent choice for Irish Draught breeders wishing to outcross line bred mares to preserve genetic diversity and traditional Irish Draught type.
